Early Life
Joseph Michael Scally, known as Joe Scally, was born on December 31, 2002, in Lake Grove, New York. He is an American professional soccer player who mainly plays as a right-back. He can also play as a left-back or wing-back, making him a versatile defender.
Career at New York City FC
Scally developed his football skills in the New York City FC academy. He often competed against older players, which helped improve his strength, speed and confidence.
In 2018, at only 15 years old, he signed his first professional contract with NYCFC. He later made his senior debut in the U.S. Open Cup and gained valuable first-team experience.
Move to Germany
In January 2021, Scally joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany. He first played for the reserve team before earning a place in the senior squad.
During the 2021–22 season, he became a regular Bundesliga player at the age of 18. He scored his first Bundesliga goal in October 2021 against VfL Wolfsburg. Since then, he has become a reliable member of the team.
